ABOUT GOOD SHEPHERD DAY SCHOOL
Our Philosophy
At Good Shepherd Day School, we aim to develop students who serve God through others and meet the complexities of an ever changing world as Christians with strong morals and values to guide them. As a community of faith, we gather together in Jesus' name to provide opportunities for students to grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically as we foster a lifelong thirst for learning.

Our History
The tradition of the Good Shepherd Day School has been one of excellence and strength. The School was established in 1963 to meet the needs of working parents with pre-school age children.
The School had its beginnings as the Bay View School, established by Lynn Hartnagel and Muriel Goddard, parishioners of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Punta Gorda, Florida.
In 1973 the School moved into the Church's new facility on the corner of Shreve and Henry Streets. Growing with the time, Good Shepherd built a separate building for the Day School. Within these two buildings, the School not only offers an outstanding pre-school program, but also a traditional, faith based, independent Episcopal School educational experience for children from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
The School's main focus is on the importance of preparing students to become well-adjusted, productive citizens who can successfully adapt to the rapidly changing conditions of our global society. It is deemed equally important that children leave the School with an intrinsic set of values that give them an ethical framework for life.
Good Shepherd Day School Student Covenant
I am a child of God and so are all of my classmates and teachers
As a child of God I am loved and called to love my neighbor and myself and myself. Loving my neighbor is an act of respect which I joyfully undertake.
I am responsible for my behavior - what I say and what I do.
I will treat others with respect.
I will keep my hands to myself, using them only to help and not to hurt.
I will resolve conflicts with words and careful thoughts.
I will consider and value feelings of my peers.
I will take instruction and correction from my teachers without complaint.
I will choose and use words very carefully.
I will think before I speak, making sure the words I use are appropriate.
I will listen to my classmates and teachers and wait my turn to speak.
I will use words that encourage and uplift those around me.
I will respect the school property and the property of my classmates.
I will ask permission before handling or using things that don’t belong to me.
I will treat the things that I have earned the privilege to use with great care.
I will trust and share with my classmates.
I will respect myself and value my education.
I will dress appropriately and take care of my body.
I will strive to do my very best in all of my schoolwork.
I will be honest and tell the truth.
I am a child of God and so are my classmates and teachers.
God keeps his promises - I will do my best to keep mine.
